MAN'S OPINION VS. GOD'S TRUTHThrough the study of various earth formations, the age of the earth is said to be well over 60 million years. Dinosaurs are presumed to have roamed the earth even before humans. Many in the scientific community believe man originated from a single cell organism which perhaps arrived here from another planet. The age of the earth and how man came to inhabit this planet are two mysteries of the scientific community. Since most in this arena deny the existence of God, is it any wonder the very idea of a six-day creation by a Supreme intelligence (God) is not seriously considered? Either the Bible is Divinely inspired of God, and can be used by man in a profitable manner, or it is an ancient book of lies. In an attempt to seemingly bring science and "religion" together, some individuals feel that the creation account as described in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, can more closely resemble the scientific version (evolution) if the 6 days mentioned in Genesis could be interpreted to mean 6 separate millenniums. What is very dangerous about such personal interpretations, is that the truth of God's word is being replaced with man's opinions. And as we know, man is a fallible creature. Only God is perfect. Throughout Genesis, we are told that the setting and the rising of the sun are to be understood as one literal 24 hour period. "And the evening and the morning were the first day." (Genesis 1:5) "And the evening and the morning were the second day." (Genesis 1:8) Also see: Genesis 1:13, 1:19, 1:23, 1:31. We are also told that creatures of the land, water and air were created on the fifth day, and man on the sixth. Together, they were to peacefully co-exist, with man having dominion over the creatures of the earth (Genesis 125-28). Biblical genealogies also suggest that the earth is nowhere near the age many scientists say it is. How then, do we know that God's word can be trusted? First, and most importantly, from what the Bible has revealed about the nature of God, we know that nothing is impossible for our Heavenly Father. (Mark 10:27, Luke 1:37) If He could heal the sick and raise the dead, surely He could create the earth and all life in it in less than 7 days. We also know that in God is truth and therefore He cannot lie (Titus 1:2). There is much scientific evidence to support the Biblical creation account. Science and religion do not HAVE to conflict. It is man's lack of faith in God which has caused this apparent conflict. Here are a few examples. When the Apollo astronauts prepared to land on the Moon for the first time, scientists adhering to the belief that the earth and solar system is millions of years old feared that the spacecraft would be engulfed in a thick blanket of dust which they presumed would accumulate on the moon's surface after millions of years. What they found was not several feet of dust, but only about 1/2 inch of sediment. Most scientists, even the most staunch evolutionists, will admit that life on earth appears to be designed as a result of the sophisticated design and function of even the most simple organisms. Till this day, we still do not fully understand how every aspect of the human brain works. How then, if life appears to be designed, can one explain these complexities away as being a mere chance of evolution? If there is a design, certainly there is a Designer. If there are scientific laws which govern heat, light, sound and gravity, then surely there must be a Lawmaker. The belief in evolution is dangerous because it either denies the existence of God, or lessens His supreme authority over all things. As long as there are individuals who reject the one true God, there will exist various speculations and theories as to the beginnings of life and the earth we inhabit. Whether or not, we choose to follow man's opinions over the infallible truth of God's word is up to us. "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." (Proverbs 14:12)
